US State Tax Exemption and 0% EU VAT Explained

Modified on Tue, 23 Apr at 3:54 PM

We're excited to share some important updates regarding tax settings for both our US and EU sellers. We aim to make this information as accessible as possible, especially for those who are new to these processes.

For US Sellers:

If you're a US seller looking to avoid tax charges when ordering books to be shipped within your home state, you're in luck! We've made it simple for you to set up your account accordingly. Follow these easy steps:

  1. Log in to your Biblio account and click on "Account" at the top of the page.

  2. Choose "Account Settings" from the drop-down menu.

  3. Navigate to the "Business Info" tab, located just below your address.

  4. You'll find a section called "Sales Tax Exemptions." To benefit from this exemption, select the box that says, "I have a valid sales tax and use license."

By doing this, US sellers can specify their US state for their Reseller's License and enter their Tax ID Number. This ensures that sales tax won't be added to your orders within your home state.

For EU Sellers:

EU sellers, we have good news for you too! Although the option to enter a tax ID in your account settings isn't available just yet, it will be accessible starting from June 15, 2021. Here's what you'll need to do when it's live:

Log in to your Biblio account.

  1. Click on "Account" at the top of the page.

  2. Select "Account Settings" from the drop-down menu.

  3. On the "Business Info" tab, you'll be able to choose your country and enter your tax ID number.

Once you've provided us with your tax ID, you won't be charged any EU VAT when purchasing books from non-EU sellers through your seller account.

Don't forget to save your changes by clicking the "Save" button. Going forward, please ensure you're logged into your BiblioDirect account when placing book orders, allowing us to apply the US state tax exemption or 0% EU VAT accordingly.

For Tax-Exempt Customers:

If you have customers who qualify for tax exemption in their respective states, we want to make sure their accounts are set up correctly. Kindly request them to reach out to us at support@biblio.com for assistance in setting up their customer accounts for tax exemption. We'll simply require some documentation, such as a tax-exempt certificate, to make this process smooth and hassle-free.

We hope these updates help streamline your buying and selling experiences on Biblio. Should you have any further questions or require assistance, please don't hesitate to contact our support team at bookseller-support@biblio.com. We're here to ensure your journey with us is as seamless as possible.
