Taxes on Imported Goods
Starting from July 1, 2018, if you're buying something from outside Australia and it costs AUD $1,000 or less, there's a 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) that you'll need to know about. The same goes for our friends in New Zealand, but for them, it started on October 1, 2019, and it's in New Zealand dollars (NZD) at NZD $1,000 or less.
What We Do
At BIBLIO, we take care of the math for you. When you order a book from another country and it falls under those price limits, we'll add the 10% GST to the total cost, including postage. This way, you'll see the final price upfront when you're shopping.
Good news for our sellers – this doesn't change how much they get paid, and it won't affect any commissions or fees. The GST is sorted out during the checkout process, and it's the customer who covers it. We'll make sure that the GST gets to the right tax people.
Shipping Made Easy
If you're shipping to Australia or New Zealand, we've got some info you should put on the package to make sure it goes smoothly through customs:
For Australia:
Include this on the package: BIBLIO ARN 3000 1364 6941
Use the GST exemption code: PAID
For New Zealand:
Put this on the package: Biblio IRD 130-237-460
Don't forget the GST exemption code: PAID
We'll also make sure this info is on the packing slip for orders that need it.
